AIMS Exam Tips

  • Use a gummy eraser on the MC (This improved scores by 17%)
  • Choose B or C if you aren’t sure of the answer.
Each question contains:
1 incomplete/partial answer
1 close answer
1 correct answer
1 distracter or obviously wrong answer
             Usually A is the incomplete answer.
             Usually D is the distracter.
              If in doubt, select B or C.

Writing

  • Use a hook and return
  • Use onomatopoeia, simile, metaphor, personification if appropriate
  • Use semi-colon, conjunctive adverb, comma and conjunction to combine a sentence
  • Use an appositive, a participial phrase, and/or a relative clause to show sentence variety
